Direct answer

Can a CUCM administrator deploy call recording without an installation team?

Yes. The guided workflow deploys and claims a recorder, connects CUCM, presents the proposed recording configuration for approval, and validates a pilot call. For the exact prerequisites, Cisco objects, videos, test matrix, rollback plan, and specialist-review boundaries, use the canonical CUCM self-service setup answer.

Cisco documents phone-based recording, where a supported phone forks media, and network-based recording, where the phone or gateway can supply recording media. Select the path that matches the deployed endpoints and call flows; do not assume every Cisco phone or route behaves the same. Review Cisco’s recording call-flow examples.

CUCM deployment outline

The guided workflow turns Cisco’s recording objects into a reviewable, approved change set.

  1. 1

Define the recording scope and capture path

Choose the users, line appearances, call types, and pilot phones to record. Confirm whether the design will use supported phone-based Built-In Bridge recording or a network-based recording source.

  2. 2

    Deploy and claim the recorder

Run the customer-hosted recorder on a supported deployment target, claim it in the call-recording.com dashboard, and permit the required internal CUCM signaling and media paths.

  3. 3

Connect CUCM and discover the environment

Provide the CUCM connection details and administrator-approved credentials so the guided workflow can inspect the cluster, devices, lines, and relevant existing recording objects.

  4. 4

Review the proposed CUCM recording objects

Check the proposed recording profile and destination, SIP trunk, matching route pattern, line recording option and media source, and Built-In Bridge settings for phone-based recording.

Cisco’s current CUCM recording task flow covers the recording profile, optional recording SIP profile, SIP trunk, route pattern, phone line, Built-In Bridge, notification tones, and selective-recording controls. See Cisco’s CUCM Release 15 recording guide.

  5. 5

Approve and apply the change set

Authorize the reviewed configuration. Set recording notification tones and recording policy according to the organization’s legal, security, and change-control requirements.

  6. 6

Place a pilot call and validate the result

Call the pilot path, then verify that the expected audio and call details reach the recorder, delivery completes, and the recording can be played in the dashboard before expanding the scope.

FROM REQUIREMENTS TO FINAL VALIDATION

Four stages, one workflow.

STAGE 01

Requirements

The wizard collects the information needed for the recording design.

Answer a short set of questions about your Cisco voice environment — no site survey, no discovery workshop, no scheduled vendor call.

STAGE 02

Recommendation

call-recording.com presents the configuration for review before making changes.

You see exactly what will be provisioned before anything changes, so the design can be reviewed like any internal change request.

STAGE 03

Provisioning

The approved design is provisioned on the Cisco voice infrastructure.

Once approved, call-recording.com applies the recording configuration to Cisco CUCM or Webex automatically — no command-by-command build.

STAGE 04

Validation

The pilot-number call confirms successful recording from end to end.

One real phone call proves capture, delivery, and playback. If you can hear the recording in the dashboard, the deployment is validated.
